Taking a proactive approach to breast health
For women in their 40s, a clear picture of your breast health starts with a mammogram and can help you take a more proactive approach.
NHS breast screening starts from age 50, but women aged 40 and over can choose to have a private self-referral mammogram sooner. It is designed for women who have no breast symptoms and would prefer not to wait for routine screening.
What does a self-referral mammogram involve?
At Sevenoaks Medical Centre, self-referral mammograms are available to women aged 40 and over who have no breast symptoms, are registered with a UK GP and have not had a mammogram within the last 12 months. No GP referral is needed and the appointment can be completely self-funded.
Your mammogram will be reviewed by an expert breast consultant radiologist. If anything needs further attention, you will be contacted with clear next steps and supported by the breast care team.
