“…… can you organise the Christmas party for us?” the question either gets you spinning into a blind panic or champing at the bit to get planning. At the George & Dragon, Chipstead, I am often asked for advice about how to plan a great event, so whether you love or hate the idea of planning the Christmas party, hopefully my following thoughts will help you.
- Make a list! Simply brainstorm your ideas and get them onto paper. List all your ideas and expectations for the event, it’s the best start to planning any party. Once all those ideas are on paper group them into categories e.g. fun activities, style of food, drinks on offer themes etc.
- Know your budget! Having a budget is essential when planning and holding a successful event. Be realistic about what your budget can stretch to. Consider what a fixed price ticket would include e.g. just a welcome drink or wine on the table, and make sure your guests know what to expect for their money. In most cases, a simpler offering with fewer choices will be a more efficient way to offer value for money and a good time had by all.
- Finally, think through each part of the event. When will people arrive? Where will they go first? Is there a drink on arrival? What happens if people don’t know many other people coming? How long should you allow people to mingle before the food arrives? If you carefully think through every part, you can put things in place to ensure that each step of the event is smooth and seamless.
At the George & Dragon, Chipstead we have planned dozens of weddings, hundreds of birthdays and more Christmas meals than I could count in the 10 years we have been open. Every year we plan our Christmas menus paying careful attention to the feedback from previous years but more importantly the requests we get from customers.
This year we have 5 different menus to choose from to suit all types of event and budget. With an attention to detail and our expertise in party planning, why not have a look at the menus we have on offer and see if we can give you an event to remember for the right reasons this December.
