1. How did the idea for the Trek Tots™ Play Mat come about?
It was born from a mix of my parenting challenges with a passion to simplify the everyday for families. During a midnight feed scroll session, planning for a family holiday with a four-month-old baby and a two-year-old in tow. I was on the hunt for a travel play mat for my youngest, something safe and comfortable where he could roll, explore, and just be his curious little self.
But what I found instead were options that made me sigh in frustration. The products were either thin, blanket-like mats that didn’t offer any real cushioning or oversized, cumbersome play spaces that were impractical to carry. None of them ticked the box for being compact and truly travel-friendly.
That’s when it hit me. As a parent who believes in making life simpler and embracing the adventure (with as few hiccups as possible), I knew there had to be a better way. This need for a durable, portable, safe, and genuinely compact solution led to the creation of the Trek Tots™ Play Mat.

4. What has been your single biggest lesson launching your new business?
My biggest lesson has been that things rarely go exactly as planned, especially when you’re learning each step along the way! As a project manager by trade, I thought I had a clear timeline, but I encountered many unexpected bumps. I’ve learned to expect the unexpected and to build in buffer time, giving myself flexibility for the inevitable delays. I also remind myself that I’m juggling life as a mum to two whirlwind tots, a wife, and a day job. So, to have made this much progress in just over a year and a half is something I’m truly proud of.
5. Why is a Trek Tots™ Play Mat a lifesaver for parents?
I vividly remember those early days visiting my in-laws, where the whole house had hard tiled floors – so different from our carefully baby-proofed home. I was constantly worried about every tumble and found myself too stressed to fully relax.
