Finally, we’re starting to shake off the winter blues and relaxing evenings outside are ready to
be a thing again. Just one thing – the garden’s needs some work to get it back in shape.
Now chances are that once you’ve given the grass a haircut and woo’ed the flowers with some
plant feed and de-weeding that you’re pretty much there. Yet, it never feels quite complete. It’s
the lighting.
Often over looked and undervalued is the garden lighting. Well, any electrics in the garden for
that matter. So here are some simple, yet effective solutions that will set the scene in your
garden the year.
- Festoon lights. Paired with filament bulbs (lamps before the electricians riot), festoon
lights can either make the space warm and cozy or cover a wide area with minimal effort.
Many of them can be run off of a standard UK plug. - Spike lights. It’s a light on a spike. Poke them in the ground. Don’t like the placement?
Un-poke them and try somewhere else. Once you’re happy have them hooked up to
some power aaaaaaand you’re done.
Look great lighting up walk ways, plant beds, ponds, and garden edges. Honestly, it’s
kind of hard to go wrong with a spike light. - Out door wall socket. It might seem strange to have a plug socket in the garden but bear
with me. Other than a waaaaaay better solution for plugging your mower in there’s a far
more relatable use for one. Charging your phone… The BBQ is going and the evening is
drawing in. Your phone is paired to the bluetooth speaker and kind of ready to give up
the ghost. Now, you could go in and charge it or have your partner take over as DJ.
Perhaps the indoor socket is by the window and you could open the window and reach
through. Or you could just make life easy and have a Weather Proof Socket there.
Affordable and honestly the best quality of life improvement I’ve personally made in my
garden. No more trailing extension leads. No more faffing. Love it. - Wall lights. Great for lighting between indoors and outside helping to adjust your
eyesight before going between dark to light. Box lanterns for example. Classic and still a
solid solution. Or perhaps some well placed up/down lights to softly light areas without
spread light outside the desired location. Or go for it with some recessed spotlight. They
look great on show or as a discrete lighting solution. - LED tape. LED tape is, quite frankly, genius. Nothing catching your eye fixing wise? LED
tape. Tricky spot to illuminate? LED tape. Completely custom, one of a kind solution?
LED tape! With some IP rated led tape and a bit of creativity you can truly enhance your
garden space. From lighting underneath your deck or patio area. Highlighting steps or
door ways, flower beds or… well, anything. There’s very little you can’t do with LED tape.
Oh, and they have RGB options which can really help create some unique scenery.
