Relationship coach
Wheel of life
A coach will help you look at your life as a whole – relationships, finances, career, home life, your environment etc. You can do an exercise where you rank each area out of 10 and then specify where you’d ideally like it to be. This allows you to identify any gaps in your life. From there you can set a goal around a theme in your life like relationships. You can access a handy template to get started here.

Write down a list of your top 10 values in life. Take them and cut them down to the three most important values. These are your non-negotiables and will be the ones you look for in relationships or expect others to respect in you.
Write a letter
Write down what you’d like in a future partner or relationship. This helps define the parameters of relationships and the behaviours you are looking for in your inner circle. When you meet your new friend or partner you can show them the letter.

Practice setting boundaries around relationships. You can use this as an example: When you do [insert behaviour upsetting you] it upsets me because [explain why it upsets you] in future I’d prefer it if [outline the behaviour you’d like to see].
Rewire your story
Sometimes we can be very cruel to ourselves and tell ourselves false narratives e.g ‘I’ll never meet a partner’. What narratives do you tell yourself? And when did they start? A life coach can help you unpick deep rooted beliefs and help you start to challenge them.
Positive affirmations
You might like to try to create a vision board or scribble on sticky notes some affirmations. Make them visible on your desk or bathroom mirror and repeat them to yourself. This can be as simple as ‘I will have healthy relationships’. These can help rewire unhelpful beliefs.

Imagine someone you have a relationship with is sat in the chair next to you. Tell them how you feel. Then switch seats and pretend to be them expressing how they might feel. You can then take a step back from afar taking on the role of a neutral advisor.
