Chill Out: 13 nearby spots to beat the heat this summer!

We’ve been blessed with some wonderful, hot weather these past few weeks and it looks set to continue. Here’s our top 13 local spots to stay cool, without having to spend a fortune!

Lullingstone Country Park – the stream has a shaded path – perfect for walking the dogs and paddling in to stay cool

Join St Julians Club in Sevenoaks – once members, you can enjoy their gorgeous pools, tennis courts, restaurant and more!

Hyde Park Serpentine Lido – a quick hop on the train and you get to The Serpentine Lido, arguably London’s most iconic ‘open water’ swimming location. The Lido is open for public swimming every day between June and Mid-September, 10-6pm.

Swanley Splash Park – the splash pool is designed especially for children, with a large splash area and fun water features they’ll love. It’s just £1 per person – for both children and their grown-ups!

The Strand Park & Lido – The Strand Lido in Gillingham  is the only remaining riverside tidal saltwater pool in the country offering affordable swim and splash play sessions.

Tri Swim – Open Water swimming in several local Kent destination; Chipstead Lake, Penshurst Place, Hever Castle Lake & Haysden Lake. Tri Swim are offering any child under 16 free swimming this Summer with one paying adult.

Tonbridge River Trips – hire rowing boats down the Medway and enjoy the scenes whilst staying cool.

Tonbridge Open Air Pool – their unique heated outdoor pool, complete with a water arch and beach area, is the perfect place to relax, splash around,

Bradbourne Lakes – Bradbourne Lakes is a park with five ornamental lakes linked by small waterfalls and sluices. Find a lovely spot to feed the ducks and stay cool by the water in the shade of the trees.

Ightham Mote – enjoy the natural play area at Ightham Mote with the little stream, perfect for paddling.

Chipstead Sailing Club – become a member and stay cool by enjoying paddleboarding and/or sailing at this lovely, friendly club.

Tonbridge River – explore the waterways of the River Medway with your own paddleboard (you will need to hold a padle board license) and launch for free from the river entrance by the Tonbridge pool car park. Alternatively hire SUP kit from Adventuro for the day.

Visit one of Kent’s gorgeous Blue Flag Beaches and make a day of it!


For the ultimate day out; don’t forget to pack a picnic, spare clothes/swimmers, towels, a rug, sliders, buckets and nets.
