Style & Nutrition workshop: how to feel great inside and out!

When I was asked if I’d like to attend a Style and Nutrition workshop run by professional stylist Fleur McCrone and nutrition expert Jennie Gough, I jumped at the chance!

Having already gained so much from Jennie’s ‘Rewire Your Food Brain’ programme last year I knew I was in for a treat. And with the added style insight from Fleur, it’s a match made in heaven.

The workshop aims to give you advice on how to refresh your wardrobe, your mindset and your larder! It’s an informal and friendly day, held in Fleur’s home, where guests are welcomed in and greeted with coffee and fruit to start the day. After introductions and the chance to explain what we each wanted to get out of the day, Fleur began by talking about the importance of recognising your own body shape. Once that’s clear in your mind, she said, it becomes much easier to navigate yourself through the myriad of clothing styles in the shops.

“Fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it”

The principle message I took from Fleur was the importance of building a capsule wardrobe. She talked us through her capsule wardrobe and showed us how different items can be partnered together to create different looks. She highlighted what was on trend this Autumn/Winter and how you can include nods to seasonal trends within you wardrobe, without breaking the bank.

Jennie then demoed her ‘go to’ green smoothie recipe and delicious chocolate energy balls which we all got to sample. She talked us through the knock on effect of cravings when we eat unhealthy foods and gave us advice on how to stop weekend binging! We also received a ‘capsule kitchen’ weekly plan with lots of quick and easy ideas for healthy meals and snacks.

“Ditch the scales!”

Jennie’s advice is to move away from the diet ‘mentality’ as it won’t help you in the long run. Don’t view foods as good and bad; just ask yourself “What’s this food going to do for me? Will it nourish me?” Make choices based on health and it will lead to a happier, healthier you!

This was aptly followed by lunch, which was a feast of roasted sweet potatoes, quinoa salad, tamari roasted chickpeas & tahini dressing. Proving that making healthy choices doesn’t have to be boring and certainly leaves you feeling full and satisfied!

In the afternoon, Fleur talked through the theory of colour and how you can be more confident with adding colour to your wardrobe and what mistakes to avoid.

I left feeling very inspired. I went straight home to sort through my wardrobe, asking myself “Would I buy this in a shop?” Sometimes you just need a prompt! I also felt back on track with my healthy choices and refocused on what foods I need to eat to fuel me from the inside.

If you’re looking for some style and nutrition inspiration or support, why not get in touch with Fleur or Jennie. You can check out their websites for more information or book your ticket for their New Year workshop in January 2018.
